The ADA team qualification process is complete with a record setting 145 teams approved for competition in the $70,000 ADA National Championship on July 24-27, 2003.
This year’s competition will see many new teams from new areas. With the location moved from Las Vegas to the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Chicagoland it comes as no surprise the franchise area with the most teams closet to the Windy City. ADA Rep. Kevin Graham from Joliet, IL had to spend countless hours coordinating team registrations for his 38 teams that have qualified to compete at this National Championship. Other notable areas include Kansas City with 15 teams and East St. Louis with 13 teams. Additional teams will be representing areas from Texas, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia and Florida. A complete list of teams by league area is available on the web site.
Also of notable increase is the participation in the ADA Express League event. This new league 3-person team format is only 3 years old however has rapidly grown to the largest team event format at the 2003 National Championship with 47 teams registered to compete in Soft tip Neutralizercategory.
Soft tip again remains the format of choice not only in league play across the country but also at the National Championship. Of the 145 teams approved for this years championship, 109 of them are playing in the soft tip venue (75%) while the remaining 37 teams will play steel tip.
Following the Team events 525 of the team members will be competing in the Singles Events on Friday, July 25, 2003. Look for the Top Seeded Singles list to be posted online in early July.
Sponsored by AmberBock, Coca-Cola and Dart World, the ADA Championship is the world's only nationally ranked event to host both steel and soft tip events and is the only national championship in the United States to "seed" singles participants based on their local league performance.
