Professional Darts Corporation Update

For those fortunate few who attended the Professional Darts Corporation’s (PDC) 2nd Las Vegas Desert Classic you witnessed, by far, the best darts “show” ever produced in this country!   Hosted by the beautiful MGM Grand Hotel and with guaranteed prize money of $120,000 participants competed in just three events!

The ADA was there in full force as thirteen ADA members competed.  Our new sponsor, AmberBock, provided the uniforms and a “hospitality” party complete with complimentary AmberBock beer and snacks. True to form, thirteen turned out to be unlucky number as none of these members made it to the stage but in the process they were able to compete against the world’s best darts players.

During the event I met with PDC Chief Executive Officer, Tim Darby and Tournament Director, Tommy Cox.   It was a great meeting as we agreed to work together in 2004 to strengthen our sport of darts here state side.

One program effective this year will guarantee an ADA member a position in the Lambroke.com World Darts Championship! The PDC has expanded the field of competitors from 32 to 48 and awarded a “wild card” slot to the ADA.   It will be awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Must be an ADA member in good standing
  • Must have participated in the American Dart League in the 2003 calendar
    year
  • Must have competed in an international, televised championship outside of
    the US

With over $400,000 (US) this event has one of the largest prizes in darts! Held December 27-January 4 in Manchester, England, it will be televised live to over 1 million households. The member will be selected by November 27th and will receive airfare and hotel accommodations compliments of the ADA. If you meet the above qualifications, send a resume to the ADA.

Thanks to the PDC’s professional approach to our sport of darts our new relationship is sure to bring added credibility to both the ADA and our sport.  Continue to check the ADA web site for future developments.
