LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO – Glenn Remick, president of the American Darters Association, and Mark Fetters, Program director of the Tri-County YMCA have recently obtained formal approval from the YMCA of Greater St. Louis' corporate office to provide a soft-tip dart program for YMCA members and their families. The two have been working on this special collaboration for several months and are encouraged by how quickly the idea has taken shape. Using soft-tip Halex dartboards manufactured by Regent Sports, the Wentzville based YMCA Dart League will effectively transfer the membership and format of an earlier ADA Youth League program from a commercial location, The Midwest Music Pit.
“The Music Pitt gave us four wonderful years during its era as a non-smoking, no-alcohol location,” said Remick. “Our success there established the validity of ADA’s youth dart leagues. Only the location owner’s decision to obtain a beer and wine license made it necessary for us to find a new home.”
Remick said ADA has found that home at the Wentzville YMCA. “Believe me, it’s a perfect fit,” he said. “We’ll relaunch the program under the YMCA’s official auspices, with ADA providing management on a subcontract basis. This alliance gives our youth league a new home in a respected organization that is a pillar of the community and a strong supporter of families. Our partnership also means the doors are open for the youth league to potentially gain many new members. Meanwhile, the YMCA will also receive a powerful attraction that is already showing signs of bringing in many more young people who will become new YMCA members.”
The Y’s management is especially excited by this new darts program, said Remick, because they realize darts are an attraction that provides a unique opportunity for the entire family to play the same sport at the same time. The YMCA youth league program will permit players over 18 to be members of teams with players under 18. ADA’s earlier youth league typically maintained a 25% ratio of adult players.
Remick and Fetters anticipate that when other "Y's" in the association see the success of this new program, they too will be eager to set up their own YMCA Dart League.
