Make no mistake about it Cricket is THE game of choice here in this country.
It wasn’t always that way. Back in the late ‘60’s when I first began playing 301 was the most popular game. Cricket became popular in the mid 70’s starting as the steel tip Friday night draw doubles event in major tournaments and then in the ‘80’s when it was added to electronic dart machines.
Did you know the version we play today is actually a “modified” version? The original game consisted of the numbers 20-10 with no bull. As the steel tip game became more popular it was modified eliminating the numbers 14 to 10 and requiring three bulls to close simply shortening the game. It became so popular the modified version became the game we know today. One more thing, did you know in England their version of Cricket is a completely game? They do play our version but call it Mickey Mouse!
Enough trivia! Now for the big news….beginning in January American Dart League (ADL) members will begin recording mark’s per round (MPR)! Since 1991, when the ADA was founded, only Cricket nine marks and wins have been recorded. Tracking MPR will provide our Representatives and League Managers an important measurement for determining ADA members’ ability. This is the missing piece of the “puzzle” in the ADA’s Neutralizer (handicap) divisions.
Members record the MPR and the number of rounds calculated by soft tip dart machines and electronic scoring devices at the conclusion of each game. The only down side comes from our English steel tip category where league divisions still “chalk” games manually.
There is relief in sight for our steel tippers. The ADA is working with a manufacturer to bring an electronic scorer to all ADA host Neutralizer locations!
Similar to Points Per Darts Averages (PPDA), individual member MPRA will be processed weekly by Representatives and listed on the ADA web site.
Stay tuned!
