New Orleans ADA AmberBock Challenge Weathers the Storm

The ADA AmberBock Challenge event was originally scheduled for September 24, 2005. Hurricane Katrina’s romp in from the Gulf of Mexico caused many things to be canceled. With so many people from the “Big Easy” either relocated, re-building or homeless, ADA Reps. Larry & Stella Bordlee postponed this event.

On October 17th as many had now began to return to their normal life, the American Dart League started it’s fall session with over 90% of the teams that originally signed up for the fall session returning. The ADL also welcomed many new members from throughout the area as this is the only dart league operating in New Orleans at this time. The American Dart League is another welcome return to everyday life for an area devastated by nature.

With members returning to league play, the AmberBock Challenge was held on November 12th at Phil’s Lounge, one of the area’s largest locations and darts supporter. Over 30 members attended this competition as the teams faced off in a race to 5 wins based on the ADA Express League match format. At the end of the day the final match was truly a battle worthy of being televised for all to see. In a match that lasted over 1˝ hours, with bulls-eye after bulls-eye thrown and neither team seeming to want to give ground, the team of Bull Reds (Shane Thibodaux, Timmy Vidal and Ed Blondiau) emerged victorious.

Among these were darts, glass-wear, tee shirts and more including two (2) Michelob AmberBock lighted walnut back boards awarded in a membership contest. All returning and new members for the fall session were eligible. Returning member Thomas Cauthron won one back board, while first time ADA member Amber Smith was drawn to receive the other back board.

Even after starting the fall session, ADA Reps. Larry & Stella continue their efforts to rebuild. They are currently promoting to begin a “Katrina” league division for those players that missed the October 17th start-up. Each week Larry & Stella work with more taverns and locations that re-open their doors and return to business.
