Mid West Regional Championship -
It's a Wrap!
By Glenn Remick, Pres., ADA

The Mid West Regional is now history and I'm pleased to report it was a tremendous success!

Two new programs were introduced at this historic Regional.  First, Certified Professionals competed!  Pros from Illinois, Missouri, Colorado and Virginia participated.  These Pros lived up to their new titles as several made it to the Championships final rounds.

Next, and of equal importance, selected Open events were staged on Sunday in preparation for television coverage.  Final events started Sunday at 9 AM and continued until 5 PM.  Spectators sat in “theater styled” seating watching the finals from elevated platforms.  A practice room adjacent to the finals room was set up with both steel and soft tip boards allowing plenty of time for the finalist to “warm” up for their staged event.

The Mid West Championship started on Thursday afternoon with members competing in a unique 501 Open singles best of 3, best of 3 sets format.  A 501 draw doubles followed.  Thursday afternoon started with Cricket singles in a best of 3, best of 3 sets format followed by a Cricket draw doubles.  Saturday and Sunday was a mixture of Open and Neutralizer team events (triples & doubles).

The Pavilion Hotel located in downtown St. Louis (formally the Marriott) was our host. Members worked around the construction as the hotel will be transformed into a Hilton April 1 st .  A special thanks to the St. Charles County Dart League for “loaning” the ADA their standards for the English steel tip events.  Soft action took place on Shelti's soft-tip machines.  The St. Louis Dart Shop provided members with dart supplies.  Anheuser-Busch products were served with AmberBock specials and prizes awarded throughout the four-day event.

A Super Bowl party concluded the weekend with members enjoying free food while watching the game on a 10 foot screen in the Pavilion Bar.  A perfect way to end a great weekend.  A special thanks to the members who flew in from Virginia, New Mexico & Chicago.  Thanks also to Fox Sports Net Midwest for stopping by to cover this Regional.

Complete Mid West Championship results and photos are posted online.

We now set our sights on the Mid Atlantic Regional held in the Hampton Roads/Newport News area of Virginia.  Dates are March 9-12.  Continue to check the ADA web site for updates.

Mid West Regional Championship - Off and Running!
By Glenn Remick, Pres., ADA

The Mid West Regional Championship is officially underway! Thanks to electronic technology I can provide you a report on Thursday's competition.

Before I report on the competition I'm pleased to report our efforts to bring our sport to television is already paying off! Fox Sports Net (FSN) Midwest arrived shortly after the 501 Singles event got underway interviewing myself and several other ADA members! The segment airs tonight (Friday) between 9-10 PM . Pass the word!

Five events took place yesterday, all 501 straight start, double out. The Championship started at 2 PM with Men's & Women's singles (soft & steel tip) followed by a soft tip draw doubles. The singles event was a new addition to the Mid West Regional and I remain impressed with the turnout. The format was best of 3, best of 3 sets. In this format members play a minimum of four games, a maximum of nine! A lot of darts are thrown in this format and that is the reason we shifted this event to Thursday afternoon. The same format is scheduled for today's Cricket singles.

We've formatted this Regional Championship for television by shifting the finals to Sunday. So here is the match up for Sunday's 501 finals:
Soft tip Men Bill Cross, Jr., DE 29.8 ppd (Region II) vs Paul Michon, IL 30.4 ppd (Region V) Soft tip Women Lisa Breuer, MO 16.3 ppd vs Barb Szepanski, MO 18.4 ppd (both Region V)
Steel Tip Men Keith Keener, MO vs Ralph Hauck (both Region V)
Steel Tip Women Sue Hacket, MO vs Amy Bonta (both Region V)

Double elimination best of three (one game on the losers side) was the draw doubles format. Adam Haskins IL & Chris Cartwright VA captured first place with Tony Wilkerson MO (Region V) & Robert Wehde CO (Region VI) placing second.

On another note history was made yesterday as the first darts were thrown in the history of our sport by Certified Professionals! These Pros qualified through American Dart League Open division play in 2006 and as a reward for being the first Pros they received complimentary entry into Thursday & Friday's singles events.

The Mid West Regional is sponsored by Michelob AmberBock beer and held at The Pavilion Hotel in downtown St. Louis . A Super Bowl party follows the finals on Sunday. Members will enjoy free food while watching the Super Bowl on a 10 foot square screen! Additional information about the Mid West Regional Championship online including complete restuls and photos Monday evening.
