Ready! Aim! Throw! The 8th Annual ADA Military Cup Challenge (MCC) is set this year at the Wyndham Hotel and Resorts in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, August 7th. The event is the only competition providing the opportunity for all branches to compete for the Cup and bragging rights as to who has the military’s best darters. Following the MCC, there is also a Military Singles and Military Doubles event – The Wyndham is a “target-rich environment” for darters!
Budweiser sponsors the ADA MCC and active, reserve/guard & retired military are eligible to compete in Team (3-person), 501 singles & Cricket doubles events in both English steel tip & electronic soft tip. Soft tip competition takes place on the Shelti Eye II, the official machine of the Military Cup Challenge. This year we have teams representing the following branches at the ADA MCC: Air Force, Army and Navy.
The Air Force has always been a great supporter of the Military Dart Leagues and Military Cup Challenge year after year. The Sheppard Air Force Base dart league has participated in the Military Cup Challenge since 2002 with great success! Sheppard ADA Military Rep is SMSgt Holly Dye, a 24-year member of the Air Force and active duty Air National Guard Training Liaison for Sheppard Air Force Base.
Sheppard's league has been a jumping off point for other military dart leagues. Members that depart Sheppard for other Air Force assignments have started leagues at Seymour Johnson, Cannon and overseas bases such as Korea.
DR’s Glen Pugh, Cannon AFB, New Mexico and Fred Leighty, Offutt AFB, Nebraska recently returned to Sheppard AFB for another assignment and immediately signed up to participate again. 2008 finds Sheppard once again representing the Air Force, they are sending two military teams and two civilian teams to participate in the Military Cup Challenge and the National Championships.
Both Military events are organized and directed by the American Darters Association (ADA).
The Military Cup Challenge is held in conjunction with the $65,000 17th ADA National Championship (August 6-10, 2008 at the Wyndham Hotel and Resorts). All military participants are eligible to compete in the Championship events.
So who are the best darters in the military? At last year’s Cup, it was the Air Force on both sides! Who will take it this year? Grab your gear, the 2008 battle for the Military Cups is just around the corner…
