This August, the American Darters Association celebrates our 20th year operating leagues and championships around the United States! We asked ourselves, what better way to celebrate this anniversary than to bring the party back to Las Vegas! If you haven’t heard ADA Nationals returns to “Sin City” August 3rd – 7th at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino. You can make your complete room reservations through the following link: hotel reservations link
In keeping with the traditions of previous years, Warm-Up events will kick off the National Championship Wednesday the 3rd. The warm up events include the always popular Cricket Singles event, ADA Pro Singles and the Open Draw Doubles event. Every night of the National Championship an Open Draw Doubles event will be held in the steel and soft tip format. Members from all over the United States who qualified for 2011 Pro Status will also be competing that first opening day in the ADA Professional Singles event. This is a very prestigious award to win. The Pros will compete for the American Darters Association’s Best Male and Female Darter on the soft tip and steel tip side. Non-Pro Members will compete on Friday, August 5th in the men and women singles event. Out of those members, the Top 16 men and Top 8 women are Pre Seeded for the singles event. While waiting for the bracket to narrow down, these members will warm up and relax in the Top Seed Lounge. They will begin to play in the event when the brackets are down to the Top 16 and 8 spot.
On Thursday, August 4th the Championship hall will open early, allowing members to warm up for the day’s competitive Team events. There are eight different formats, with 100 teams battling their way through eight brackets to crown the ADA’s best teams of the nation.
New this year to the Championship is a twist to the original format of the Doubles events! Saturday and Sunday’s events are Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Mixed Triples. Starting this year they will all be Double Elimination! Now members will get another opportunity to climb their way back through the brackets and have a second chance to take the “hardware” and prize money home!
Another new addition to the Saturday and Sunday events at the Championship is allowing ADA members to cross over from Soft to Steel or Steel tip to Soft tip. This allows members the opportunity to play the other dart type at a championship level. Please note these additions regarding the Double Elimination and the Dart Type Crossover’s are only on Saturday and Sunday and only IF they have a current average in local league play from the past two years (2009 – 2011). This does not apply Wednesday – Friday.
The Adult / Youth event is returning for its second year! This event is tailored to ADA members that combine the Championship with their family vacation. Parents and children ages 13 – 20 can team up and compete against other adult / youth teams. This year the event is moving to Saturday afternoon.
You will also find an update to the Division Rep Singles event on Sunday. This year we are opening the event to Team Captains as well! If you were a Team Captain for any ADA league this past year you qualify to enter this event. Opening up the DR Singles event by allowing Team Captains to enter will generate a diverse group of participants, increase the competition and create an exciting event to watch!
Throughout the National Championship week members can participate in satellite events sponsored by Budweiser. The Bud Mini’s are held throughout the day, every day. In comparison to our nightly Blind Draw events, the Bud Mini’s are smaller and slightly modified. 1st place winners of each Bud Mini event will receive grand prizes provided by Budweiser.
Here at the ADA Home Office we cannot stop talking about this upcoming National Championship. It is going to be a very exciting year for everyone that participates! Not only are we proud to have a 20th National Championship Anniversary we are also very fortunate to have members who are just as excited to attend, participate and compete year after year. After visiting Palace Station, I can say without a doubt this is a great location for the ADA because of all that it has to offer. So grab your dart case, an ice cold Bud and meet us in the desert August 3 – 7th for the ADA Nationals!
