When Texas has a reason to have a benefit tournament, we do it up in a big way especially for an ADA family member. Cliff Stephens who is a long time member and long time player of the ADA has an aunt and uncle in Bastrop, Texas who recently lost their home when it went up in flames in the Texas wildfires in August. We discovered that they lost everything in the fire and wanted to help in any way possible and raise money for Cliff’s family.
We planned a benefit tournament for Saturday, September 24, 2011 and started talking to local restaurants, bar owners, and stores for donations for the raffle prizes. In addition, we had two people donate a set each of Dallas Cowboys tickets to raffle off for the Christmas Eve game. What an awesome volume of raffle prizes we were able to obtain as it filled almost three long tables full. Thanks to everyone who participated, donated and collected for this event.
On the night of the benefit, there was an unbelievable showing of support from the players. They just kept coming through the door in droves! We had 52 soft tip shooters show up and the tournament started a little past 7:30! It was an awesome sight and good to see everyone there. The majority of the players gave 100% of their winnings to support the cause. Thank you players!
I can say without a doubt that this was the most successful tournament in our area of North Texas. It was large! We had almost 200 people in the bar and with the North Texas American Darters Association (NTADA) staff in charge of running it, you couldn’t go wrong. There was never a dull moment for Rich Lough and myself.
With the tournament and the raffle prizes we raised over $3,000 dollars for Cliff’s family! Yes, I said it, $3,000 dollars. What an AWESOME feeling this was to be a part of something this huge and knowing that this was going to help out Cliff’s family in buying essentials.
The Stephens’ family & I want to thank those that assisted in making this tournament successful and those that came out in support of the cause. We would not have had the same success without all of you! Give yourselves a pat on the back, as you deserve it!
