From The President...
National Championship Update

I write this as Major League Baseball players converge upon Chicago for the 74th All-Star game.  As far as I’m concerned it is just a warm-up for the real All-Stars who will arrive the following week for the 12th ADA National Championship!

Held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, a record 145 American Dart League teams will be attending to compete for the $70,000 in prize money plus awards but more importantly, bragg’n rights!  The National Championship is THE event of the year for the ADA. If you have attended you know what I’m talking about. It is the only Championship in the United States that brings both steel and soft tip players together to compete under the same roof.

Here at ADA Headquarters we’re busy wrapping up loose ends before we head up highway 55 from St. Louis to the Windy City. We’re anxiously awaiting the Championship Programs to arrive from the printer so we can forward them to the Captains.

We’ve made changes to make the Championship better this year.  The biggest is moving the Captains Meeting from the morning of the Championship to 9:00 PM on Wednesday night. The extra time will certainly help us with any last minute changes. A “Captain’s Contest” immediately follows the meeting providing the opportunity for Captains to meet each other while competing in a fun event. There is no entry fee and thanks to our sponsors, there are great prizes for the top four winners in both steel and soft tip categories.

On Thursday, Opening Ceremonies takes place at 10:00 AM. I’ll be presenting medallions and cash for the eight Top Seeded American Dart League members.  They’ll join other “Seeds” at the Top Seed Lounge on Friday for cold complimentary AmberBock, Coca-Cola beverages & snacks.  Their rewards for performing well in league play throughout the year.

The Military Cup Challenge has now become a very important part of the Championship and we’re proud to have the American Flag presented by the Sheppard Air Force Base Color Guard.   Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force members will be competing for the “Cup” on Thursday.

At the conclusion of the Championship I’ll announce the Most Valuable ADA Members of the Championship.  These members are extracted from the computer database based on their performance during the event.  Awards and cash prizes are their rewards.

So, we’ll allow Major League Baseball to “warm-up” the Windy City in preparation for the best darters in the country to compete at the 12th ADA National Championship held the 24-25-26 & 27th. See you in a week!
