Baseball and darts how can it get any better! On Sunday, June 13th I had the pleasure of bringing both sports together at TR Hughes Ballpark when I directed the first darts tournament held at a professional baseball game!
It was a great night for the home team as well as the O’Fallon, Missouri, River City Rascals (RCR) who defeated the visiting Springfield, Illinois, Springfield Ducks 14-5.
During the game, and just beyond right field at the beer concession, ADA members competed in a 501 Singles Tournament. Sponsored by Michelob AmberBock the format was open in/open out, best of 3 games, double elimination. The four electronic soft and steel tip dartboards were supplied by Valley and Vortex, the official dart machines of the ADA.
After a grueling 3 hours, Steve Lange emerged as the winner of the Soft Tip Singles Tournament and with Dave Clausner claimed first place on the Steel Tip side. Both walked away with AmberBock Back Boards. Runner ups Ken Ebert and Mike Blattel won AmberBock Bristle Dart Boards.
During the baseball game an ADA Bull’s-Eye Contest was open to attending baseball fans 21 years or older. Individuals had the opportunity to throw three darts at the Bull’s-Eye for a prize. Win or lose all contest participants were eligible for a random drawing for two Halex electronic dartboards compliments of Regent Sports. Congratulations to contest winners Alex Stephens and Brian Wiezard.
It was a great night for baseball and our sport of darts. The River City Rascals management team was pleased with the results and have agreed to host another night of darts and baseball soon!
