If Johnny Appleseed were alive today, he wouldn’t be walking the land planting orchards. He just might be criss-crossing the nation on a motorcycle and throwing darts. That’s how ADA President Glenn Remick found himself on a two-wheel, 12-state odyssey during the month of June.
“It started as a working vacation and turned into a labor of love,” Glenn reports. “My brother, Gary and I expected to be roaring down America’s highways and byways in 90-degree weather. It didn’t always work out that way. We were almost blown off the road by a howling rainstorm in Redding, Pennsylvania!”
This ADA Biker Tour covered 12 states in the Northeast and Midwest where Glenn met with local American Dart League members, playing darts and enjoying a few AmberBock’s (while riding responsibly, of course). “It was great opportunity to get out of the office and back into the real world of darts where I tossed darts with the members, met with franchisees, and our sponsors,” he reported. “We had a ton of fun!”
Glenn’s itinerary covered Springfield, IL, Indianapolis and Terra Haute, IN, Covington, KY, Cincinnati and Columbus, OH, WV, Middletown, PA, Albany, NY, Brattleboro, VT, Hartford, CT, Providence, RI, Boston, Worcester, and Springfield, MA, and Concord, Manchester, and Nashua, NH.
In Indianapolis, Glenn met with an old high school buddy from MA and with the AB Wholesaler Zink Distributing, whose executives pledged support for an ADA “expansion team” in the area. In Cincinnati, Glenn and AB Wholesaler Sales Rep Toby Coston from Heidelberg Dist. attended the city’s “Party in the Park” fair. Bands, food, arts and crafts were enjoyed by hundreds of local families. Glenn was introduced to the crowd along with sports notables from the National Football League and Major League Baseball, taking a bow for darts. Later that night he wrapped up the "AmberBock Darts Challenge Series" with ADA League Manager, Kirk Schreiber. Before Glenn's trip had concluded, Kirk started his first division and Cincinnati’s first summer dart league!
Another highlight came in Nashua, NH, where Glenn and teamed up with NH ADA franchisee, Jon Rice. They met with the five NH Anheuser-Busch wholesalers who pledged their support of Jon’s NH franchise. That night they met at Cattleman’s a location that sponsors ADL teams. Special guests included Mr. & Mrs. Sam Bellevance owners of Bellevance Distributing who brought with them a box of AmberBock premiums for ADA members and their guests. Truly a great night for our sport of darts!
This ADA Motorcycle Odyssey was interrupted by a trip to Las Vegas where Glenn attended the International Bowl Expo & the Las Vegas Desert Classic. This fall, he plans to return to MA to pick up his bike (parked in his brother’s garage) leading to Part II of the trip - VT, NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA, TN, and KY.
He’ll be visiting ADA members, franchisees and AB sponsors along the way. Look for the “Easy Rider of Darts” in your neighborhood soon!
