The ADA, in cooperation with Anheuser-Busch, continues to organize and direct AmberBock Darts Challenge events throughout the United States. The purpose is to expand the American Dart League to new market areas and to provide “sampling” opportunities for the Michelob AmberBock brand. The following is a report on the “AmberBock Darts Challenge Series”.
Burlington, Vermont – McKee’s Tavern Burlington is Vermont’s largest city located and is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. The city and McKee’s Tavern played host location to the first AmberBock Darts Challenge. McKee’s has a spacious back room with four steel tip dartboards and is a great place for darts! After a short orientation meeting to introduce the ADA and American Dart League concept I organized a draw doubles contest. Farrell Distributing, the local Anheuser-Busch wholesaler, provided some great AmberBock premiums and all entry fees were returned as cash prizes. I blew the dust of my tungsten darts and with encouragement from my home state members entered into the event. After agrueling afternoon of double elimination games of 501 & cricket, my partner Spencer Wood, & I defeated ADA Reps Ned McPherson & Dan Audette in the finals. In addition to being a great shot, Dan is also our newest ADA Rep and with assistance from his wife, Darcie, will begin their first division in Burlington in January. A special thanks to the staff at McKee’s for a job well done in hosting this event and to AB wholesaler, Farrell Distributing, for their support.
Rutland, Vermont – Out of Bounds The ADA licensed the first Vermont franchisee to Rutland’s Ned & Cindy McPherson last year. Since then they have done an outstanding job in developing the American Dart League in this new market. Out of Bounds, just one of the great sport bars hosted the first AmberBock Darts Challenge. Vermont is prominently steel tip state however the Rutland area tosses soft tip darts. The draw doubles format was 501 & cricket, choice on the third game. I got the green light to enter and after a full afternoon of competition my partner, ADA Rep Cindy McPherson and I captured first place defeating ADA members Spencer Wood & Kyle Therrien. Owner Tony Robinson & his staff did a great job in taking care of our ADA members throughout the long day of darts. A special thanks to Farrell Distributing who provided great AmberBock premium prizes for participating ADA members.
Albany, New York – Scoreboard Bar
Have you ever played darts in an Off Track Betting facility? Albany’s first AmberBock Darts Challenge took place at such a location! The Scoreboard Bar is located at an authorized off track horse race betting location in the heart of New York’s capital city, Albany. Huge screens surround inside the facility with steel tip dartboards located in between them. Words cannot properly describe the playing conditions. The ADA brought in ADA top darter, Holly Carver who took on all challengers in games of 501 straight start-double out. Only one player, Bob Harmon defeated Holly and was awarded an AmberBock bristle dartboard. A blind draw doubles followed the Challenge. In addition to hosting the AmberBock Challenge, the Scoreboard hosts the only steel tip league in the entire city. Electronic soft tip darts and wooden “Touhey” American darts are also played in sponsoring taverns. A special thanks AB wholesaler, Ruch Dist. and to Holly for a great night of darts. The ADA looks forward to expanding the American Dart League to the “Tri-city” capital area soon.
Taylorville, Illinois – Our Friends Place Our newest American Dart League is just getting started in Taylorville, Illinois. Located just outside of Springfield, the state capital, Taylorville is a “blue collar” mill town with tons of neighborhood taverns and dozens of great darts players. The first AmberBock Darts Challenge was held at Our Friends Place with cooperation from Gagne Distributing, the local AB wholesaler. After a short Orientation Meeting new ADA League Manager’s Andy Shoemaker & Josh Bell organized a draw doubles event of 501 & cricket. Only soft tip darts are played in Taylorville and after a full night of double elimination competition Denny Hughes & Josh Bell emerged as the winners defeating Barb Wicker and Terry Middleton.
