Philadelphia is the city of brotherly love and home to some of the best dart players in the United States. Recently it was also host to another AmberBock Darts Challenge Series.
I had the pleasure of working with Mike Broderick, Vice President of the Quaker City Dart League (QCDL) and Mark Whited, owner of the Bull’s-Eye Dart Shop recruiting the required eight three-person teams for this event.
Philadelphia is really a great city for darts. You’ll find steel tip, soft tip and wooden darts! The wooden darts are American darts played on the Widdy dartboard. I attended an “In-house” American league and met with president, Gary Nugent. Just one game is played, baseball, and league members use the same darts throughout the game! In fact when once your turn is completed you walk away and your opponent retrieves the darts and scores the turn then throws!
In regards to the Challenge, it was held at the Nutty Irishmen, one of Philly’s premier dart pubs. The ADA’s Express League (race to 7 points) was the competition format with 500. in prize money split between the top four teams. with $250. plus individual plagues going to the championship team. After 5 hours of grueling darts QCDL Pres., Russ “Jazz” Jasinski, JD, & Mike Lewis defeated Todd Harrington, Jo Jo Kerns & Walt Felton for first place honors, $250. and individual plagues. Raffles for great prizes were held throughout the AmberBock Challenge.
The response to the Express League format was very positive and plans are underway to bring the American Dart League to Philly. Only 12 players (four-three person teams) are required to get started.
