The 26th St. Louis Senior Olympics took place on Sunday, May 22nd. Their mission is to promote, coordinate and support the health and wellness of men and women 50 years of age and older, by providing them the opportunities to participate in competitive and social events.
There are dozens of indoor/outdoor events with seniors grouped in five-year increments. The Senior Olympics was founded here in St. Louis over 25 years ago and has expanded to every state. Hosted by the Jewish Community Center and staffed by hundreds of volunteers, gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to the top three in every event. Medal winners qualify for the State Games who then compete for the National Senior Olympics held every two-years on the odd years.
The ADA introduced darts here 10 years ago and the participants have grown every year. I had the privilege of being the Event Director for the Darts Event. Eighty-eight registered (54 men/34 women). Playing on electronic soft tip Regent Halex boards, the format was one game of High Score (21 darts/7 turns). The medal winners and their age groups can be viewed at the St. Louis Senior Olympics web site.
