After a great night of darts in Amarillo, I swing back on I-40 east for Oklahoma City (OKC). Another four-hour journey through the Texas panhandle into western Oklahoma.
Back in the early ‘80’s when I served on the Board of the American Darts Organization (ADO), OKC was a huge steel tip area. Several of the top darts players in the country resided there. Sadly, today there are no steel tip leagues operating! Oh, there are plenty of steel tippers there; the area simply lacks a sound management team to keep it going! We look forward to developing a steel tip American Dart League division there soon.
On the soft tip side OKC has a couple of leagues operating. One on Arachnid Galaxy machines, the other on Merit Scorpion machines. OKC brings back fond memories as I introduced soft tip darts to this market as Director of Marketing for Merit in the late 8 0’s.
I arrive in town late afternoon and Premium Beers, the OKC Anheuser-Busch wholesaler, is my first stop. I work out the final details with their management team for the AmberBock Challenge at Booger Red’s.
Booger Red’s is a great location and in addition to the three Galaxy machines they have pool tables, video games and a dynamic sound system catering to country music. It’s another great turnout for the 501/cricket Michelob AmberBock Draw Doubles. All participants received an AmberBock prize with cash and prizes for the top four.
In the finals Michael Ross & Tracy Christian defeated Brad Griest & Mike Heroux. Ken Komprood & Shawn Ingram and Doug Brassfield & Shawn “Polter” Geist placed 3rd & 4th respectively.
It was a great night of darts in OKC and we look forward to expanding the American Dart League there this fall. A special thanks to Rhonda Hall and the Booger Red’s staff for a job well done in hosting the Michelob AmberBock Draw Doubles Challenge.
