You could not ask for a better setting for the ADA's first Regional Championship Series of 2003. Held on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, directly across from the famous St. Louis Arch, the new Casino Queen Hotel & Casino played host to The Mid America Regional Championship. What a beautiful sight seeing tugboats pushing barges silhouetted against the lights of the Arch and the St. Louis city skyscrapers.
Over 300 members and guests attended making it the Midwest Regional Championship the largest Regional Championship in the history of our 10-year Series! The Midwest has some of the best darters in the country and many of them attended this Championship. Many great matches took place over the weekend event held February 7-8-9. Just one example was the 301 Men's Neutralizer Singles finals match. ADA member Paul Michon from Joilet, IL ripped through the bracket and in the finals tossed only 23 darts in three games (9-6-8 dart games) to capture the Championship Crown against Chris Greene! Talk about being in a zone!
Sponsored by Michelob's AmberBock, members from six Midwest states attended competing in both electronic soft and steel tip event. Soft tip action took place on Valley Cougar 8 machines with steel tip play taking place on the new coin-operated Vortex electronic machines. Most members came from the greater St. Louis area where over 1,000 members participate weekly in the American Dart League on both sides of the Mississippi River.
If this Regional is indicative of future Championships, we can look forward to another fantastic ADA Championship Series. Our next stop is the Mid Atlantic Regional in Hampton Roads,Virginia. Over $100,000 in prize money plus awards will be presented to ADA members in this Series Championship.
