ADA Members shaving their heads, Hooter Girls crashing the Championship?!? Just another darting event in the Hampton Roads area!
Attended by over 200 members, the AmberBock Mid Atlantic Championship is the second Regional on the 2003 $100,000 tour. Held in Hampton, Virginia I'm pleased to report it was a tremendous success. These east coast members know how to party and toss some great darts as the same time! Held March 7-8-9 at the Quality Inn over $6,000 in prize money plus awards was presented to members in electronic steel & electronic soft tip events in both Open & Neutralizer categories.
Hampton Roads ADA Representatives, Rob Coleman & Tommy Walker did a great job to organize and direct the weekend event. Special guests included the Military Cup Challenge II Air Force championship team of Mark Walls, Wes White & Pete Rutkowski from neighboring Langley Air Force Base. Also in attendance were Pennsylvania's ADA Representative, Mike White and Maryland ADA League Manager Jason Draper.
Soft tip action took place on Valley Cougar dart machines with steel tip competition held on the Vortex dart machines. Slydart provided their new battery operated electronic dart sharpeners for the steel tippers. Dart World products were provided by George Sizmore and his Lil Bit of England dart shop.
Shaved heads? A new ADA cult? Perhaps lost bets or simply something in the water, I'm not sure. But members Wes White, Jerry Andrews, Matt Henriksen, Steve LaFountaine, and JR White decided to get rid of it all and buzzed their heads. When someone finds out the real story please let us all know!
Hooter Girls? The Hampton Hooters is adjacent to the Quality Inn an as it turns out several of the "Girls" play darts. So, I purchased a $25. gift certificate from Hooters General Manager, Jim Simmons as a gift for a lucky member we selected at random. In addition I tossed in a couple of sets of AmberBock darts plus Regional Championship shirts. To be eligible for these prizes members simply subscribed to Bull's-Eye News the official darts magazine of the ADA. Late Saturday afternoon Hooter Girls Stephanie, KC, Leah Rachael & Charlene, "crashed" the Regional and randomly selected the winners. Congratulations to grand prize winner, Phil Mapstone from Maryland!
In regards to the competition local Hampton Roads member, Diane Rutkowski had quite a weekend taking first in both Soft tip Womens Singles, Mixed Doubles, Draw Doubles and top four in Open Doubles and Mixed Triples. Wes White demonstrated why he is tops in the military by finishing first in Mixed Doubles and Saturday's Draw Doubles, finishing fifth in Friday's Draw and top eight in Men's Neutralizer Doubles. Shane Meeks, also a "local" had a great weekend as well taking first in Men's Neutralizer Doubles and Men's Neutralizer Singles, second in Mixed Trips, top four in Doubles Soft tip and Open Doubles Steel, top eight in Mixed Doubles Soft.
The next stop on the Championship tour is the $70,000 National Championship in the Windy City of Chicago. A reminder: Dates are July 24th -27th. Check out the ADA web site for complete results of the Mid Atlantic Regional and National Championship details.
