Mid-West Regional Championship - Event Wrap Up

The ADA's Mid West Regional returned to the beautiful Downtown Marriott located just one block from the Arch and the Mississippi River February 3-6.

"When we reached an agreement with the Marriott last year we were unaware of the activities taking place in downtown St. Louis for this weekend," reports Championship Director, Karl Remick. Talk about a party weekend! Members found themselves smack in the middle of a huge Mardi Gras celebration. Toss in the American Car Show at the Convention Center and the World Boxing Spinks/Judah fight at the Savis Center (both just three blocks away) the Marriott was a full-house of partying people!

This all before the Super Bowl! On Sunday we created our own party by converting the Championship Room into a "private" ADA Super Bowl celebration. The 10-foot square "Leader Board" that projected the brackets throughout the weekend became a huge television projecting the game!

Oh, yeah..members also played darts! Members from Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Indiana members participated. A Thursday night Draw Doubles kicked off the Regional and has been added to the Regional Tour.

The draw complimented members who traveled in for Friday's Cricket singles. This singles event is like no other found anywhere in the country. The best of 3, best of 3 sets leaves no excuse for losing. Lose the first set, no problem, the format provides the opportunity to even it up in the second set. A third best of 3 set advances the winner to the next round - a minimum of four games and a maximum of nine! Congratulations to member Dan Lauby who tossed 4.8 marks per round advancing him to the finals. Imagine tossing almost five marks every round, every game for four hours! The second Regional draw wrapped up Friday's agenda.

Saturday is the Regional's biggest day, full of Open and Neutralizer singles & doubles events. The third and final draw doubles concluded the long day of darts. In addition to the draws, Michelob AmberBock beer, the official beer of the ADA provided great prizes for members. All participating members were eligible with winners chosen by electronic random

Sunday concluded the Regional and what a day it was! Triples, Doubles and Singles wrapped up the Championship. Following the competition dozens of members enjoyed an all you can eat buffet while watching the New England Patriots win the Super Bowl!

All had a good time and we look forward to returning to downtown St. Louis in 2006!
