Virginia Beach, the Atlantic Ocean and darts, how can it get any better than this? ADA members from six states converged upon the Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel March 10-13 to compete in the AmberBock Mid Atlantic Regional Championship.
Sponsored by Michelob AmberBock the third ADA Regional in just six weeks offered the opportunity for members to take home over $8,000 in cash & prizes in both steel and soft tip events. The extended weekend also served as the debut for the new Cougar Eye 2 dart machine from Valley and Shelti.
The Sheraton Oceanfront lived up to its name overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and in spite of being held during the "off season" Virginia Beach offered many activities for members and guests. Eastern Virginia is also home to some of the top darters in the ADA. Host ADA Reps, Rob Coleman & Tommy Walker continue to do an outstanding job in this area managing over 400 members playing in over two dozen host locations!
The Regional started with a Thursday night Draw Doubles with Richard Egan and Ralph Cassitto taking first place on the steel side with Todd Lapp and Dennis Genberg winning the soft tip side. Cricket singles kicked off at noon on Friday. The best of 3, best of 3 sets format provides members the opportunity to play a lot of darts and no excuse for losing! Charley Sawyer (steel tip) & Bill Cross, Jr. (soft tip) were the victors. Scott Ingrum tossed the highest marks per round scoring 4.77 to a third-place finish.
A soft tip Military Doubles was added to the Regional with Navy's Bobby Roy & James Tishko taking first place over the Air Force Carl West & David Griner. The Friday night Draw followed with Darryl Hickman & Darren Frantz topping the field in steel tip and Dayton Strawbridge & Paul Merr placing first on the soft tip side.
Saturday was the largest turnout of the day with a mixture of Neutralizer & Open events. Sunday wrapped up the long weekend with Mixed Trips, Open Doubles and Singles. Click here to view a complete list of event results and photos.
