The American Darters Association was created in the United States in 1990 and is heavily played throughout North America.  But that doesn’t mean we can’t branch out to additional countries.  In fact, we have Members located in Canada, Mexico, Germany, England, to name a few.   Well we are proud announce that the ADA/ADL has expanded to the Philippines!  And as a bonus we got to reconnect with a past member and old friend, Mr. Dennis Genberg!

412057718 325588177059165 1616810027155652168 nADA Rep Dennis Genberg third from the left with Team Champions” Team Casper.

Dennis became a member of the ADA in 2002 in Newport News, VA with then ADA Reps Rob Coleman & Tommy Walker.  Current ADA Rep is Stacie Smeland and going strong 22 years later!
But this article isn’t about the states, its about our new ADA area the Philippines!  Dennis first made his trip across the pond back in 1990 (ironically when the ADA first started), and since then made multiple trips over there.  Each time, getting to know the locals more and more and decided when he retires, he is going to spend this later years there with his new fiancée Susie Manansala.

As Dennis got his feet wet, not only living there but learning the dart scene, he found out that the area has groups in different cities/provinces that will put up a couple boards and hold small money in/money events.  The entry fee is equal to a $1 to $5 fee each time.  The MAIN difference, most of the events are OUTSIDE! The events are predominantly Steel Tip and all they play is standard 501.  So when they played their first league as Doubles, CRICKET was a major adjustment for them.   But proud to say, they made it through!

The big promoter of Darts in the area is the NDFP (National Darts Federation of the Philippines).  They organize the big events which draws in a ton of darters.

Dennis is enjoying his members there in the local American Dart League but has been fortunate enough to play with some of the great “Filipino” players such as Christian Perez or Laurence Illagen!
Dennis also comment’s, “I contacted the ADA Home Office because I feel it would help the game and help promote the darters here to show there are other opportunities in our sport.  Along with different avenues to reach their goals! Plus ADA could grow internationally more, since the majority of players only hopes are winning a local ‘Mimo Event’.  This will give them a stepping stone to better themselves and their game, which  is what I feel, the ADA could do for so many of the players, now members!”

They love having DartConnect as an option through our League Play as well! Dennis is also a fan of the Online Play! I know he beat me up the first time we played! Dennis I owe you one!

“I would add that I enjoyed what darts and the ADA has done for me as a member/player and its the goals! I achieved these goals thru the ADA and the promoting of the sport, from anyone starting out being new to darts, to a well seasoned player.  Everyone can still reach goals in this game! I hope that with Karl’s continued guidance, we have taken the first step to bringing the ADA here to stay, and showing  that darts can be for everyone not just the chosen few that make it to the PDC!”, Dennis concludes.

The Philippine League has just finished their very first League of Doubles Open Steel Tip!
Congratulations to Team Casper defeating Team Race 7! Congratulations to MVP of the first League Mark Bacalando!
A special thanks to Dennis and all the new members joining our ADA Family!
